A different kind of business education

Problem solver. Value creator. Difference maker.

The world needs people who can figure things out, even when there's no playbook. Especially when there’s no playbook.

The Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management (BCom) program is an applied business degree that will help you gain knowledge and know-how that is in high demand but in short supply - and equip you to make an impact. Be the one who identifies possibilities where others only see barriers. Who generates creative ideas and innovative solutions. Who gets buy-in from others. Who makes things happen. Who gets things done.

These kinds of entrepreneurial qualities will serve you well throughout your career - be it in business, government, not-for-profits, or start-ups. Every sector of society needs people who bring an entrepreneurial mindset and approach to their vocation.

Through relevant, applied, experiential learning, you’ll strengthen your ability to:

  • identify and pursue opportunities
  • craft solutions to pressing problems
  • jump into a project and deliver results
  • communicate with clarity and confidence
  • collaborate effectively with others
  • lead with empathy and influence

You'll develop your capacity to be an entrepreneurial thinker and doer — someone who envisions what is possible and makes it happen. This is the essence of entrepreneurial management and the focus of the BCom.

As a graduate of the BCom, you'll have knowledge, skills, and experience to advance your career and lead with impact.

You

The BCom is designed for those who are dissatisfied with the status-quo, motivated to learn, and keen to move forward and enlarge their impact.

The pursuit of the BCom is not about earning a degree for degree sake, but creating the conditions that allow you to expand your opportunities, make a change, advance an intra or entrepreneurial idea, take on your next challenge, and realize your potential.

And since this program is delivered through our blended learning model, you will continue to work while you learn - which only makes the learning more real, relevant, and impactful.

No matter where you are in your career or entrepreneurial journey, we are helping to set you up for success.

Be sure to request more information or view a program webinar before making application - we want to ensure this is the right program for you.

Your peers

Unlike a typical undergraduate business program, the Royal Roads BCom attracts students in their mid 20s to their 50s. United by a desire to grow, the diversity of ages, backgrounds, and experiences enriches the learning environment and enhances the quality and impact of the student experience.

Our students' work and life experiences allows them better relate to and engage with the program content, apply it in real-time, and facilitate deeper, more meaningful conversations and connections with one another.

Want to learn more? Watch our BCom Behind The Scenes webinar series, where we talk with three different graduates about their time in the program and life since graduation.

Outcomes

As you journey through the program, you'll increasigly be able to:

  • approach work with entrepreneurial insight and impact
  • figure out how to add value and make a difference in any work context
  • solve problems and move ideas into action
  • advance your career and differentiate yourself from other business grads

BCom grads work in fields as diverse such as:

  • technology and digital services
  • financial services
  • non-for-profits and public and social services
  • corporate services and consulting
  • sales and business development

Designed to Deliver

The BCom is a part-time degree completion program designed for working professionals like yourself. It is an applied, boutique-style program delivered over two years through a blend of online learning and three short on-campus residencies.

The program has been tailored to meet the needs of those who want to learn while they work. It offers a fixed menu of courses and learning experiences. The program's blended delivery, structured flexibility, and entrepreneurial focus make it truly unique.

Online learning

Throughout most of the program, you will take two courses at a time.

Online courses are actively facilitated by faculty and consist of synchronous and/or asynchronous sessions and activities, guided and interactive discussions, and individual and team assignments.

You'll engage with a range of learning resources such as articles, videos, podcasts, and presentations as you navigate your course work.

You’re expected to help co-create the learning experience. Your contributions, and those of your peers, are a big part of the learning.

Residencies

As a blended delivery program, the BCom has three on-campus residencies: near the start, midpoint, and end of the program. Each residency is approximately one week.

Residencies are intensive, immersive, and interactive. Most students say this time together is the highlight of their BCom journey.

During residencies, you can expect to:

  • engage in full days of learning by doing
  • participate in co-curricular events and activities
  • build and strengthen relationships with peers, faculty and staff

Active education

You'll work on a range of individual and team-based applied and experiential projects that will help bring your learning to life.

Utilizing entrepreneurial methods and creative problem solving approaches (such as design thinking), you'll advise clients, develop and pitch ideas and solutions, design products and services, craft plans and proposals, and much more.

Learning community

As a BCom student, you will be a member of a cohort and supportive learning community. You'll learn from your peers as well as faculty, team coaches, and program staff.

Collaborative and team-based learning is an important component of the BCom. Throughout your studies, you'll work on team projects and engage in team and cohort-wide  learning activities designed to foster collaboration, community, and connection.

The tight bonds and support of your team and classmates will help you overcome challenges and keep you moving forward. The perspectives you develop, the experiences you share, and the networks you build will serve you inside and outside of the program - opening up new pathways and helping you advance in your studies and career.

Pathways into the BCom

Have you been meaning to go back to school to earn a business degree? Are you looking to advance your current career, change things up, or start something new? Do you have a sense of unfinished business? If so, the BCom may be the program for you.

There are two pathways into the BCom program:

Standard admission (Academic Pathway)
  • At least two years of full-time work experience; and
  • Equivalent of 60 credits or a two-year diploma (including but not limited to existing transfer agreements) from a recognized post-secondary institution that includes a minimum of 24 second-year credits, with a minimum ‘B’ (3.00/4.33) GPA
Flexible admission (Experience Pathway)
  • For applicants with two or more years of full-time work experience, but do not meet the standard admission requirements, your application may be considered based on a combination of your education, informal learning, and real-world experiences and accomplishments, as per our unique flexible admission policy.
  • Our flexible admission policy lets us consider everything you've learned and accomplished, not just your academic record. You may be more qualified than you think.
  • Most BCom students enter through flexible admission - providing a pathway and opportunity that few other schools or programs offer and making possible what would otherwise not be viable or available to many prospective students, especially mature learners.
  • Note: For applicants with fewer than 15 college or university credits, a minimum of seven years of full-time work experience (with at least three years at a supervisory, management, or project lead level) is generally required.

If you have any questions about admissions to the BCom program, be sure to speak with an Enrolment or Admissions advisor.

Additional admission requirements

All applicants are expected to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in accounting/numeracy and written communications.

Proficiency in accounting/numeracy is evidenced through one of the following:

  • Successful completion of relevant courses within an eligible block transfer agreement;
  • Successful completion of one or more college/university level accounting courses (equivalent to three credits) with a minimum C (63%) grade.
  • Successful completion of RRU’s Continuing Studies Financial Accounting Fundamentals, with a minimum C (63%) grade.*
  • Successful completion of two or more college/university courses (equivalent to six credits) in math and/or statistics with a minimum C (63%) grade in each. Contact our Admissions team for details.
  • In some cases, a minimum of five years’ experience in a role that includes substantial financial management responsibilities may be acceptable.

Note: Applicants who successfully completed accounting/numeracy courses five or more years ago are strongly recommended to take RRU’s Continuing Studies Financial Accounting Fundamentals prior to program start.

Proficiency in written communications is determined at the discretion of Admissions or faculty adjudicators and typically evidenced through one or more of the following:

  • Successful completion of relevant courses within an eligible block transfer agreement;
  • Successful completion of a college/university level English composition or academic writing course (equivalent to three credits), with a minimum C (63%) grade.
  • Successful completion of RRU’s Continuing Studies Academic Writing and Critical Thinking course, with a minimum C (63%) grade.
  • Other higher education that demonstrates written communications proficiency, as determined by adjudicators.

*In limited cases, alternative external course offerings will be considered. If you are considering a course alternative to supplement your application, please contact our Admissions team with a course link and outline for review.

English language requirements
  • If English is not your primary language, please review our English language requirements.
